go into DB and it coes something but how do u start to make a game.
I go to FILE and click on NEW PROJECT and it just comes to choose
jetski, and other stuff. I click on it and it shows all of the
codes. What da heck do I need to do to make a game????? SOMEBODY
HELP ME PLAESE?

My friend to start making a game is when you got a
blank screen and You type the code hopefully that helps
you.
But First you should, before you get into making a game,
is to learn the syntax or commands of the language.
look at
the demos, help tuts, and such play with the numbers delete a line
ot 2 learn that way in a week or so youll be able to start coding
good luck

(contrary to what they claim) is not a Game creator. It is a
programming language aimed at games. You will have to learn to
program if you want to use Dark BASIC. There are no tutorials meant
for the absolute beginner (contrary to what DB may think. I used to
teach programming there is NOTHING for an absolute beginner). The
best advice I can give is pick up this book:
Beginning
Programming for Dummies 2nd Edition

This
book concentrates on BASIC which is what DB is derived from. Perhaps
after reading this book, the tutorials in DB will make much more
sense to you.
I am sorry but thats the best advice I can give
you. There are no tutorials for DB by DB or 3RD parties that are
aimed at complete newbies and beginners.
I really think this
would be your best route. Pretty easy stuff to learn if you apply
yourself.

I question your definition of stupidity when you insult
the very people trying to help you.
One last time. If you
can, as you say, build it with codes, then the codes you are looking
for can be found in two places:
- in the online help files
that come with DB, and
- in the example files that come with
DB.
The first will give you all the codes that DB will
recognize. The second will give you examples as to how they work
together. Once you have read the command set from the help files and
gone over the example programs, post here again with any specific
questions you might have.
I strongly suggest you re-think
your strategy when asking for help. The people on these forums are
smart and helpful, and will learn quickly to ignore you when you
prove that you cannot get along with them.

Flame war with
Lelurch that got dreadfully out of hand, flames at the db guys etc,
but im happy to say he really has been a nice guy since he recently
returned, with only the occasional flame to jerks like these. Im
happy to say he never took the rip outta me even when i was new, so
ive never thought him to be a moron. I think this guys just a little
impatient and even though i hate his guts im not one to hold a
grudge so if he shuts up, takes time to learn db, then he'll get
better and hopefully achieve what he wants. Flaming is only gonna
ask for more flames, so let this post die and continue making our
games and helping each other instead of trying to argue with a deaf
twonk. So, good luck with db zen, and hope you change your attitude,
ull find were all willing to help if asked in a polite, sensible

Why? Because I am a weak person. I was
hurting really bad and I lashed out at others and took my anger and
frustrations out on them. We lost our baby 3 years ago, July 6,
1998. That was hard to deal with. Then I got cancer and it wasnt
caught very early. I was depressed and suicidal as can be because of
the baby and refused treatments. I tried to kill myself several
times, and started cutting and burning myself. Finally to get my
wife to shut up, I started treatments for the Cancer and they did
some surgery. Got better, but was still depressed, but couldnt
mutilate myself or hurt myself anymore because of how bad it hurt my
wife. So I put on a false front. We adopted a girl then. And I was
under a lot of stress with work stuck in a contract I did not want
to be in, but could not get out of. We adopted another girl.
Thats about when I came to DB almost 2 years ago. Still
really depressed about the baby and about work and other things.
Just really down and stuff since losing the baby. adopted another
girl. After some time, I lashed out at a lot of people in DB for no
reason, and was really hard on Lee. Left DB. Adopted another girl.
Started getting dizzy and lightheaded alot and Dr found very small
tumor. They did surgery. Left me with some memory problems. I find I
have a hard time comprehending some things and have had to try and
relearn some things. Also very hard for me to concentrate at times.
Dr says this stuff goes away completely within couple of years. Left
with extremely mild seizures too, can't drive anymore, but meds help
that. Also on medications for my depression and mood swings that
help immensely! I feel much better about myself and things in
general now. I am able to cope with things much better. I am able to
be a better husband and father.
As of February my contract
was terminated. Which was a blessing Retired now. Can finally do
what I want and can make games without my employer having legal
rights to them. We are selling our house and moving out to Fresno,
CA in about 8 months. One daughter is staying here to go to college,
and the other 3 are coming with us.
I am just glad most on
the boards are forgiving. Now I try to help when I can, ask
questions if I am stuck and am glad people can finally see the real
me instead of the nasty me. Depression is a nasty beast if it is not
under control. Thank God for my meds that help me to get a grip and
get back to the way things should be.

seemed too stupid to be real. Surely someone with such amazing
ineptness and complete inbred actions (Books? Try a dictionary you
prat!) has to be made up. I mean the clues are all there. Why would
someone with absolutely no programming experience buy the full
version of DB????? Also his use of English seemed to get better as
this thread went on. Hmmm. Not only this, but he went into one
straight away. Noone insulted him or anything, just told him to try
looking at an entry level programming book. Totally designed to wind
everyone up.
So I reckon it was someone on this forum having
a laugh under a different logon.

BTW, I too have trained people at programming,
although mainly people with some sort of computer or maths degree
(we don't employ less than this), and it is totally amazing how bad
some people can be. Try explaining X,Y coords for text to someone
with a computer science degree (I have one too, they are actually
quite good) for the 3rd time without sacking him on the
spot....grrrrrrrrr...... winds me up.... thank god for new IQ test
we use to screen the trained monkeys..... Ooops... bit of a rant...
but I have never seen anyone as stupid and uptight as this. QED :

I am glad there
is a newbies board now. Something I was pushing for at the
beginning. It is important for the newbies to have a board where
they can feel safe and secure in posting, and know that "no question
is too stupid" and that the only time they may be flamed is if they
are mean. We were all newbies at one point, and there are so many
willing to help the beginners and those just starting out.
It
is a shame that people like this spring up from time to time to
instigate. Lil buggers like this can unfortunately drive people away
from helping those who need it most.
I still strongly
disagree with DBs marketing and always have "no programming
experience required". I think they realize the falsehood in this,
and it has helped lead to their game maker to fill in that need. It
is a shame they chose this route instead of writing comprehensive
tutorials for beginners.

Yes, this board is a must if beginners aren't to be put
off. Pity people like this crop up now and then, but some people are
gets..there you go.
As for DBs suitability for beginners, I
would say that DB is one of the easiest languages to start out with
and learn 'to program'. However, as you said, it lacks decent
tutorials which can make it hard to start with unless you have
already learned a language. Having said that, it has more stuff than
QBasic or OPL4 which I learned programming with.
I suspect
that the Game Maker will remove a lot of people like this though,
which will be nice. More importantly for DBS, it will be a backup in

Actually, when
you've lost over 90% of your hearing to a childhood illness, you'd
be surprised at exactly how many excruciatingly stupid people
populate this planet. Being around me seems to bring out the
drooling idiot in many, many people who normally would be considered
fairly intelligent.
I've seen so much stupidity in my life
that it's hard for me not to pray daily for an errant comet to
blunder into our solar system and bring me sweet relief from the
misery of dealing with people like the little gentleman in
question.
The illness I had came very close to rendering me
severely retarded. (However, I am obligated to mention that I *do*
feel severely retarded before noon and copious quantities of coffee)
I learned how to read rather late, and almost did not learn proper
English at all. Fortunately (from certain viewpoints) I only lost my
hearing. A teacher's aide, who I hope there is a place for in
heaven, took care of my reading difficulties after seeing me trying
to make sense out of the Star Wars Storybook one day.
Ever
since then, life has pretty much been one long, uphill battle for
me. Finding work is very difficult for me, because many potential
employers have never been faced with deafness, and often would
prefer not to deal with it at all. Even when I did find work, it
usually involved heavy labor, minimum wage drudgery, or extremely
hazardous situations that very few sane people would even consider
putting themselves into. I'm happy to say that today I'm employed in
an infinitely better line of work as a scanner operator at a large
loan servicing corporation here in Florida. But before this job, the
things I had to put up with were really astounding.
The
overwhelming majority of deaf people are content to sponge off of
the governmental dole, which makes me really angry. How can I expect
to be taken seriously by employers when the rest of the people
lumped into the same category as I am insist on being lazy,
slothful, and irresponsible?
So, under all those
circumstances, I've had many a chance to examine stupidity in its
manifold forms. People like this little gentleman, who recoil from
sensible advice and instead offer our mothers somewhat dubious
thrills involving overripe fruit and sodomy, are basically a dozen
for a penny these days.
